Imperial Germans in the jungles of Venus

I know some of those who visit the blog and send me e-mails don't like posts that are unfinished projects but some days I have to get things online or it would be months until a post.So sorry here is another in progress post.

Those who looked at my project list from the start of the year may remember my plans for Venus games.Here is a start towards those in the respect of the Imperial German forces. This military camp will be protected from the local wild life with an electric fence.It consists of three barrack buildings,one office/telegraph/officers quarters and one powerstation/storehouse.

Yes they are made by my friend the cork tile again with some match sticks and PVA glue.Based on designs from Matakishi's Tea House with a few little changes of my own.Lots to do with it yet but at least its started.It was a very productive weekend.I even got some lead painted which was a nice change.

Just a few pics of the "Overseers" huts in progress for a planned plantation.Not finished but some like to see in progress shots.

Compound with fence and now stilts and roofs on the buildings.Still more to do.

Edited 06/09/15 a little more added, but I'm having trouble with my cheap home made raised walk ways and may have to rethink or buy ready made mdf versions?

I want to paint armies but only have time to glue things!

Here is my latest 'work in progress' Martian building.The apartment block is design for urban areas i.e. sections of cities,giving me some more height to the table and block out the back wall ;).

From what you can find online and in the source material their is limited European/human style buildings on Mars.Most humans convert Martian buildings to their own tastes.So this could be used for the 'Red Devils' or native Martians.

I've still a feeling that in parts of Mars were humans are in power government building may be in the Europen style like in India for example.But I'm not looking at building those at this time.They are after all more secure districts and less likely to have a full scale battle in the streets.

These are more aimed at my Fadath or Shastapsh plot lines.

Tossian Rife Unit Part 2

So there I was expecting a really busy weekend and all the plans fell though.Hurrah!"Quick before I get any new jobs to do" I said to myself.

Don't proceed with outstanding projects start the new one to see if its worth any further investment.

So the unit has been born.Still lots of work to do but its a green light.

Tossian Rifle Unit

Once again my plans for painting, converting and gaming have been thrown into chaos due to domestic 'issues'.In other words ladies!

Anyway while I've been unable to get my hands on some lead I've had time to think about a little project.Yes it will remain little and I must not let it get out of hand and grow into a new army.

Now in Space 1889 there are only two Martian Empires on the planet.Oenotrian Empire is pretty well freshed out and so are its armies. But what of the only true Martian empire that of Toss.The Tossian Empire must have some tradional units to rival their junior empire.So figure wise what could take on a Oenotrian Shield Gunner?

They would have to be armoured and likely with a gun of some sort.A second weapon like a sword maybe.I'd painted up some RAFM Shield Gunners as Tossians but while I like the Emerald paint look they just didn't work.


So to fit my thinking I've come up with this chap.

 

A Grenadier Dark Elf has an armoured style which fits the already given Martian armoured look.But its different enough to come from another region on the planet.The crossbow can be easily converted into a rifle and a few bits removed elsewhere to make it work.They could come in useful on the Nectar border against the Belgium Legions.I'm also thinking of a heavy cavalry unit to go with them.

All this means getting the time to do it.

Genetic Engineering Space 1889 style

I received extracts from some of the new novels a couple of weeks back from an interested party on TMP who felt I should know about the new additions after a recent thread on the subject.Leviathans in the Clouds seems to hold the most additions with at least two new races.

There had been hints of bio/genetic engineer as we now know it in the back ground of the series with the creation of advanced planet Vulcan (not the Star Trek one lol) but we seem to have these back ground hints coming to the fore now.I could go on about the plot but that isn't the reason for the post.

I've always been attracted to the idea of Parrotmen on Venus and went ahead with buying some Kroot and and working towards building a colony along the lines of other (non-Space 1889)writers.

I'd worked on a plot (as there aren't any birds on Venus) of Vulcan bio engineering them as guards for the Vulcan colonies/lab bases/temples and using the Lizardmen (now known as the Skreelan) as workers.Well blow me down its already been written into the latest books,well sort of!.So my question is should I make my Parrotmen into quasi Therians? Or do I stick to the original plan and make them another engineered race on Venus?

Thoughts most welcome.

N.B.We also apear to have meat eating "Beastmen" under the surface of Ceres as well.I don't think I'll be starting an army with them until at least 2014 if at all.Wish these Vulcans had not seeded so many planets & moons lol.

Finally some progress on Space 1889

Well its been a while since my last blog (nothing new there :( )but I've been busy painting and constructing while dealing with the rest of my crazy life!

More progress on cloudships but I'll post that when they are all painted. In the meantime here are a few bits that have been waiting to be finished for a while.

A Royal Navy aerial patrol ship and an Imperial German walker both from Ironclad. A Gashant pulled wagon which will have a Royal Artillery driver added to it soon and in the back ground some Martian rebels Shastapsh. The Belgian Coprate army is nearly finished and was held up by another Fadath unit (it must be the last ...) and half a dozen more mercenaries for the HBTC.New Martian pirates, Red Captains, and evil Mastermind crews being worked on to. Plans for a balsawood kite going through the blueprint stage.

Lots of Venus terrain now finished only two large bits to do. These are an interchangeable plantation and German compound which can also double as ether port with the inclusion of other buildings.

Still lots to do if I'm to hit my start of the year list. I must try to stick to it and not go off and expand small projects like the Fadath army or the Coprates.

Still its keeping me out of trouble.  Once again sorry about the poor quality of the pics but I can't buy a super camera while I'm spending money on white metal, resin and plastic ;)
